Anger Management

Anger is often thought of as a negative emotion that has destructive qualities. How often have you wanted to control your anger yet gave way to that ‘inner child’ (having a tantrum) and felt really bad afterwards? At Davenport Counselling we view anger as a normal and healthy emotion that arises in response to a real or perceived threatening situation. It becomes unhelpful or unhealthy at the point it becomes uncontrollable or is used to control others.

Recognising your physical reactions to anger, such as, a change of breathing, muscle tension, rapid heart rate and the triggers that ‘set you off’, can help you to manage the level and intensity of angry reactions.  We can help by enabling you to find ways to focus this emotion and direct it in the most appropriate way for you.

Anger Management

There are many reasons we become angry. Unresolved anger can manifest into harmful side-effects that can affect our behaviour and even develop into physical ailments. We can however, learn to identify and transform unhealthy anger into a more positive experience to defuse conflicts in a more appropriate way that they feels is more appropriate.

At Davenport Counselling, we aim to help you, to identify your relationship with anger and aim to help you plan long term solutions for your anger management. Unhelpful ways of thinking, that may have been in place due to conditioning at school or home, these can be explored in a confidential, private, nonjudgmental setting.

If you feel that your anger is making you overly aggressive and/or effecting the way you behave, or if you find that you’re always getting angry at the smallest thing or find that your anger stays with your for a long period of time, anger management therapy can help you to manage your anger and prevent further issues of anger arising.

We can help you understand your relationship with anger and help you plan long term solutions for your anger management. Call us today, we’re here to help.
